OBUASI HELICOPTER CRASH: NBM OF AFRICA CONDOLES WITH GHANA

On August 6, 2025, the Ghanaian government officially announced the crash of a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 Helicopter. The helicopter, which had lost contact during a flight from Accra to Obuasi, was en-route to an official engagement in the gold-mining town in the Ashanti Region.


The crash resulted in the loss of all on board, including several high-ranking officials and military personnel:
* ​Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
* ​Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
* ​Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy, National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
* ​Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman, National Democratic Congress
* ​Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
* ​Peter Baafemi Anala, Squadron Leader
* ​Manaen Twum Ampadu, Flying Officer
* ​Ernest Addo, Sergeant

Following the tragic news, Ghanaian President Dr. Dramani John Mahama described the incident as a national tragedy, suspended all government activities, and directed that flags be flown at half-mast to honor the victims. The military has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
