- WHO WAS SAMORA MACHEL?
Samora Moisés Machel was a Mozambican revolutionary and statesman, born in 1933. He became the first President of independent Mozambique after the country gained independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1975. - HIS VISION FOR AFRICA
Machel supported African liberation, national independence, and cooperation among African peoples. He believed political freedom should be accompanied by social development and greater opportunities for ordinary citizens. - HIS CONTRIBUTION TO AFRICA
As leader of FRELIMO, Machel played a central role in Mozambique’s struggle for independence. After independence, Mozambique also became a supporter of liberation movements in Southern Africa, including those opposing apartheid and minority rule. - THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAME TO NBM OF AFRICA
