Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sanusi was an Algerian Islamic scholar and reformer, born in 1787. In 1837, he founded the Sanusiyya, a religious movement that later became influential across Libya and the Sahara. - HIS REFORMIST VISION
Al-Sanusi promoted religious learning, disciplined community life and practical work. His movement established networks of lodges that became centres of teaching, agriculture, trade, social support and mediation across the region. - HIS AFRICAN LEGACY
