Valentine Esegragbo Strasser was a Sierra Leonean military officer who became head of state following a military coup on 29 April 1992. At just 27 years old, he became one of Africa’s youngest heads of state, leading the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) during a period marked by economic difficulties and the devastating civil war involving the Revolutionary United Front (RUF).
