NBM OF AFRICA WORLDWIDE IN REMEMBRANCE OF THOMAS SANKARA

15 OCTOBER 1987 – 15 OCTOBER 2026
39 YEARS ON, HIS LEGACY LIVES ON
Today, NBM of Africa Worldwide remembers Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara, the former President of Burkina Faso, Pan-Africanist and revolutionary leader who was assassinated on 15 October 1987.
Sankara championed African self-reliance, social justice, integrity in public service and the empowerment of ordinary citizens. His leadership placed emphasis on national independence, education, public health, women’s rights and the responsibility of leaders to serve the people.
Nearly four decades after his death, his life and ideas continue to inspire reflection on Africa’s pursuit of dignity, accountability, equality and sustainable development.
His story reminds us that the true measure of leadership lies not merely in power, but in service, sacrifice and the lasting impact made on people’s lives.
As we honour his memory, may Africa continue to nurture courageous, principled and visionary leaders committed to justice, human dignity and the progress of our continent.
THOMAS SANKARA: REMEMBERED IN HISTORY.
RELEVANT TO AFRICA’S FUTURE.
Signed:
Dr. Charles Chimezie (Ph.D)
President, NBM of Africa Worldwide
