Shehu Of Borno Commends NBM As They Donate Food Items, Cash To Flood Victims

In an effort to mitigate the effects of the recent Maiduguri flooding, a non-governmental organization, the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM), has donated food items with five million naira cash to the victims in Borno state.

National President NBM of Africa, Olorogun Ese Kakor (JP), made this known when he paid a sympathy visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence, Dr Abubakar Umaru Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, in his palace in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

According to him, Olorogun noted that one of the major objectives of the organization is to carry out humanitarian services wherever the need arises, especially in alleviating the sufferings of victims of flood-affected communities.

“It is a very special pleasure to be here in Borno State and in your sacred and respected palace; please accept the esteemed greetings from me on behalf of the patriotic members of the NBM of Africa. From the depth of my heart, I feel overwhelmed with your warm reception and I want to say we are grateful.

“Providing succor to the vulnerable is part of nation building, and nation building should not be left alone in the hands of the government. Organizations should also be encouraged to assist the government no matter how little they can. It is on record that within the last 2 years, the Organisation has carried out more humanitarian service than any other organization in the world.

“In line with our mandate, we have also engaged in the documentary of our rich cultures and traditions; sequel to this, I have instructed our research team to visit Bornu to document her rich culture and tradition and unveil them to the world.

“The Kanem Borno dynasty is ancient, You will agree with me that our rich cultures and traditions are gradually going into extinction because of the inability of our children and upcoming generations to access factual information about them.

“Your Highness, be rest assured that the NBM will do all it takes to preserve, protect, sustain and promote the rich culture and tradition of the Bornu people”, he noted.

He stressed that the visit to Borno State is not a show-off, but an act of patriotic service to humanity and brotherhood.

“We feel the pains of our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers, who have lost their lives, homes and properties to this devastating flood.

“The NBM of Africa sees this as a priority to be here to fulfil the mandate of helping ourselves from the grave effects of the flood. To this effect, we are giving the sum of N5,000,000, 400 tubers of yam,100 bags of rice and 50 bags of beans to the displaced persons in Borno State.

“This might be little, but we know it will go a long way in cushioning the effects of the flood on the displaced persons. My Highness, on behalf of the NBM of Africa, Worldwide; I humbly solicit your words of prayers to aid us succeed in our quest to revive African culture”, Olorogun declared.

He added that between October 2022 and January 2023, the Organisation visited 13 States within Nigeria and provided succour to persons who were internally displaced by the flood that ravaged most parts of Nigeria, including Nasarawa, Imo, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, Delta, Bayelsa, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Rivers and Cross River States respectively.

Responding, the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence, Dr Abubakar Umaru Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi thanked the organisation for their gestures toward humanity.

Shehu points out that the nation needs more of such organisations that would rise up to support others in distress while assuring that the people of Borno state would remain grateful to those who come to their assistance in their situation of distress.
