- WHO WAS SAMORRE TOURÉ?
Almamy Samore Lafiya Touré was a West African Muslim leader, military strategist and state builder, born around 1830 in present-day Guinea. He rose to power in the 19th century and built a powerful state across parts of present-day Guinea, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire and neighbouring regions. - HIS LEADERSHIP & RESISTANCE
Almamy Samore Lafiya Touré developed a disciplined army and centralised administration while expanding his political influence. From the 1880s, he engaged in prolonged resistance against French colonial expansion in West Africa. - HIS AFRICAN LEGACY
Almamy Samore Lafiya Touré became an important symbol of resistance to European colonial expansion. After years of conflict, he was captured by French forces in 1898 and exiled to Gabon, where he died in 1900. - THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAME TO NBM OF AFRICA
