In the spirit of the festive season, the Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, Sapele Chapter, has extended its philanthropic gesture to the Ugburumu community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. The organization donated foodstuffs, including bags of rice, cartons of tomato paste, and groundnut oil, alongside cash, to the community.
The presentation, which took place on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Ugburumu Community Hall, was well-attended by members of the community, led by its executives, and members of the NBM. The event symbolized the unity and mutual respect that has existed between the NBM and the host community.
While presenting the items, Ese Mebradu, a former president of the NBM Sapele Chapter, emphasized the organization’s commitment to giving back to its host community. “We have lived together as one since establishing our secretariat here. The relationship has been peaceful and respectful,” Mebradu said. He also highlighted the NBM’s focus on the emancipation of the black race, saying, “Our union is rooted in love and understanding.”
Julius Akpoeti, president of the Ugburumu community, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donations. “We thank them so much. When they came, we welcomed them peacefully, and they have recognized us with this gesture. This is the first time in our history that we are receiving such recognition,” Akpoeti stated. He added that the community is willing to support future investments by the NBM, including providing land for development projects.
Mr. Morgan Mamaye, the vice chairman of Ugburumu, called for more sustainable support from the NBM. “While we appreciate the foodstuffs, we hope they can also create jobs for our people. If they can help with education or bring investment opportunities, it will go a long way to alleviate the challenges we face,” he said, urging other organizations to emulate NBM’s example.
Lambert Osemwenkha Omoriege, vice president of NBM of Africa, Sapele Chapter, shed light on the organization’s broader mission. “NBM of Africa is a Pan-African organization rooted in African traditions and culture. We are committed to the emancipation of the black race and assisting the oppressed. Today’s gesture reflects our philanthropic values and the understanding that charity begins at home,” Osegula explained. He also urged others to be their brothers’ keepers during these challenging economic times.
Dr. Mascot Wanogo, president of the NBM of Africa, Sapele Chapter, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to charity and community development. “NBM of Africa is a registered organization that believes in giving back. This community has been a wonderful host to our secretariat, and it’s only right that we show our gratitude. We also engage in scholarships, talent shows, and legal aid for the oppressed,” he noted.
Wanogo further emphasized the need to support vulnerable populations, particularly in the current economic climate. “The cost of living has made life difficult for many. Through efforts like this, we can create a better world where everyone feels supported and valued,” he added.
The event concluded with words of appreciation from community members, who hailed the NBM for its generosity. As the festive period continues, the NBM Sapele Chapter has vowed to extend similar acts of kindness to other communities and organizations, reinforcing its commitment to humanity and African solidarity.
By giving back to their host community, the NBM has set a precedent for fostering unity and goodwill, demonstrating that collaboration between organizations and local communities can create meaningful change.
