The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa has expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents across Nigeria and other parts of Africa, particularly those involving heavy-duty trucks.

In a statement signed by Onyeka Ike, Esq., Public Relations Officer of the Pan-African organisation, NBM described the frequent tragedies as a major threat to public safety, lamenting the devastating impact on families and communities. “Every life lost is not a mere statistic, but a father, mother, child or sibling whose dreams have been cruelly cut short. The Movement emphasised the need for comprehensive reforms in the transport sector, highlighting issues of vehicle roadworthiness, driver training, and enforcement of safety standards as areas requiring immediate attention.

To address the challenge, NBM urged:

The organisation also called on government agencies and regulatory authorities to enhance enforcement mechanisms, while fostering collaboration with transport unions, civil society, and the private sector to promote safer roads.

Reaffirming its commitment to justice, human dignity and African brotherhood, NBM pledged solidarity with victims and their families, while demanding reforms to safeguard lives.

“The culture of indifference to safety must end. Human life is sacred and must be protected. Together, we can build a society where dignity is guaranteed and our roads become pathways to progress, not corridors of tragedy,” the statement added.
